“Tales From The Trash – A Thrift Store Art Show
Presented and curated by Lysergic Sound Distributors and Velvet Glass
For one night only, we proudly and shamelessly bring you a dazzling array of eye-popping, curious and sometimes mind-numbing examples of “found” amateur art that have been culled from thrift stores, swap meets, yard sales, flea markets and even dumpsters! LSD Records and Velvet Glass of Tucson will exhibit more than 200 original works of art from this obscure art sub-genre.
The paintings range in subject from portraits to pets, religion to fantasy, landscape to abstract and a lot of ‘what on earth were they thinking?’ Many of the originals will be available for purchase, so they may be enjoyed in the privacy of your own home.
This sub-genre of art demonstrates a huge range of technical ability, compositional skill and anatomical knowledge, all created by the home Artist.
In selecting the paintings for the show we have tried to include something to please all tastes, and possibly offend some tastes too.
Please be aware that some paintings portray the human body in all it’s natural glory, and may not be entirely appropriate for very small children or those of a sensitive nature.

Co-curator Mark Bloom is an Artist/Illustrator/Designer who has worked in the Advertising industry for far too long. In his spare time, Mark enjoys scouring local swap meets and thrift stores, collecting vintage vinyl records and making mosaics.
Co-curator Steve Purdy is the founder and owner of Lysergic Sound Distributors aka L.S.D. Records, a Tucson-based vinyl-only record label that specializes in reissuing rare psychedelic, garage, unknown, obscure and/or unreleased music from the 1960’s and early 1970’s. Steve had the idea for, and was the creator of the first “Tales From The Trash” which took place in Tucson in September, 2012. Since then Mark & Steve have joined forces to create an Art Event unlike any you’ve experienced before.
